The Vision Group Chief Executive Officer (CEO) Robert Kabushenga has announced two initiatives to help raise money from the public towards the renovation of the Uganda Martyrs Shrine, Namugongo in preparation for the Pope’s visit. The CEO said that the Company would organize what would be known as: “The Pope’s Walk for the Uganda Martyrs”. The second activity will be the sale of 100,000 special souvenir rosaries at Shs. 100,000/= each.
The rosaries will be brought in from Rome with the assistance of Kampala Archbishop Dr. Cyprian Kizito Lwanga especially for this purpose. These will be sold at a Premium and all the proceeds will be used for the renovation of the shrine. The Charity walk for Kampala Diocese is slated for 31st October. However, other dioceses will decide when to have the Pope’s walk. Every Ugandan who wishes to participate in this walk will buy tickets at Shs. 10,000/= each. The main walk for Kampala Diocese will start from Kololo, via Mbuya, to Namugongo and the participants will have the opportunity to see the progress of the renovations at the shrine.
Vision Group offices in Arua, Gulu, Lira, Soroti and Mbarara will work with the local dioceses to organize the area walks. The Papal Nuncio, Archbishop Michael Blume, is expected to be standing by the roadside near Mbuya to bless those who will be walking.
