Religious Brothers Are Imitations Of Christ

PRIZE LETTER
LET me introduce you to who a religious brother in the Catholic Church is. He is a man who spends his life trying to live fully the Christian spirit in a life he selflessly gives to others. He does this within the context of a simple, uncomplicated Christian life; that is why he restates and makes new, his baptismal vows by solemnly promising chastity (love), obedience (availability) and poverty (simplicity).

A religious brother lives in a community with other men, who share the same ideals; and who in turn strengthen his own. He aims at being a Christian, pure and simple, according to the plan God has called him to. His is a different calling to lead a Christian life.

Unlike majority other Christians, a religious brother cannot enter a contract of marriage. He works directly with the Church and is called to share his salary – at least part of it – not with his family, but with the Church, particularly in the community of brothers, in which he may be living.

Unlike priests and deacons, brothers are not called to receive the Holy Orders. But, very much like other vocations, they are called – like any other Christian – to as close to an imitation of Jesus Christ as anyone could possibly achieve.
