Electoral
Commission To Reorganise Polling Stations
THE Electoral Commission (EC) has embarked on the reorganization
of polling stations, countrywide, in a move seen as one of the
ways to harmonize the electoral process, came 2011. According
to a circular from the commission, the exercise is expected
to continue throughout the year.
In the circular, which was distributed to the public as insertions
in selected newspapers, it is indicated that the exercise will
involve splitting up the polling stations that have more than
800 voters. On the other hand, those with less than 200 voters
shall be merged.
This comes ahead of the 2011 presidential and parliamentary
elections, expected to be held next February. The EC says it
is relocating polling stations that are either congested or
set within contestable areas like private premises, including
homes, bars and those with inadequate space
