Teenage Pregnancy: Blame It On Teachers, Parents

EVERY year, approximately 775,000 Ugandan girls conceive when they least intend to, says Makerere University Professor Florence Mirembe. In fact, when teens notice the bulge, if at all they may not have had a hint with missed periods, the pregnancy is almost always unwanted, due to a number of reasons.

For one, the girl is at a tender age. So confused with the development, she is usually still under the care of someone. In most cases she is lost, since the boyfriend is not keen on owning up.

There is little thought that when a boy and girl indulge in sexual intercourse, they don’t know what they are in for, despite the fact they may not want the outcome. Problem is, fantasy eludes reason in the spur of the moment, clouding young people with several myths about sexuality.
