The Lent season that takes us to the threshold and to the bosom of God the father is here; as Christians we are called
to embrace the 40 days always in a new way and so Sebhat Ayele, Mccj has more insights for us. Take a break to grab and enjoy this unique season and precious moment with Jesus.
Terminology and Historical background
In the Church we often use symbols with traditional language without really knowing their historical derivation, which in a way limits the comprehension of their bearing. During this Year of Faith, Leadership decided to assist the younger generation and its readers in general with some explanation of the liturgical symbols/terminology of the Lenten season, by unearthing their origin. In Latin the term Quadragesima (translation of the original Greek Tessarakostē, the “fortieth” day before Easter) is used. This classification is still preserved in Latin, Slavic and Celtic languages: for example, Spanish- cuaresma, Portuguese-quaresma, Italian-quaresima and Croatian-korizma.
