The 18 newly ordained brought the number of Kampala’s diocesan priests serving in and outside the country, to 279, as at August 9, 2008. Lwanga, who was flanked by his predecessor, Archbishop Emeritus Emmanuel Cardinal Wamala and Auxiliary Bishop Christopher Kakooza, urged the priests to be faithful to the Church and also love sorrow away from the faithful.

He announced the papal bestowal of the title of Chaplain of Holiness to Fr Dr David Kyeyune, who becomes a monsignor. Kyeyune, a long time professor at Gaba National Major Seminary, in Kampala, is the national pastoral coordinator based at the Catholic Secretariat, Nsambya. As well, he announced Fr Charles Kasibante, his vicar general, formerly a chaplain at St Mary College Kisubi. (In the picture: Msgr Kyeyune)
Dr Lwanga appointed Msgr Gerald Kalumba, parish priest of the city Christ the King church, naming him also the Kampala Zonal Episcopal Vicar. Msgr Kalumba, who has been Episcopal Vicar of Wakiso Zone and the chief pastor of Wakiso Parish, replaces Msgr Paul Ssemogerere, elected Bishop of Kasana-Luweero Diocese, in June this year. The latter was consecrated on August 23, at the Cathedral in Luweero.
