The late Fr. Christopher Besigye was born on 12th February 1958 at Ndaija in Mbarara district, in the archdioceses of Mbarara and in the Catholic Parish of Rushanje. After primary and secondary school, he started his journey of formation in the Congregation of the Comboni Missionaries at Alokolum (Gulu) in 1980. Having completed the postulancy in 1983, he was admitted to the Novitiate at Tartar (in Kenya).
He made his first religious profession on 27th April, 1985.
After his first vows, he started his theological studies at Ggaba National Major Seminary. He made his perpetual vows on 9th April 1988.He was ordained priest at Rushanje (Archdiocese of Mbarara) on 22nd January 1989.
As a missionary, he was immediately assigned to Togo, where he worked in two parishes: Vogan and Aklakou parish until the year 2000.
After more than a decade of parish work, he was assigned to Nairobi (Kenya) as a formator in the scholasticate of the Comboni Missionaries from 2000 to 2004.
In 2005, he was assigned to work in the United States and Canada.
In 2006, due to the poor health of his mother (May she rest in peace), the superiors assigned him back to Uganda, Kyamuhunga parish where he served from 2006 to 2017.
From Kyamuhunga, he was assigned to the mission of greater Rushere, specifically at Burung Sub-parish. He was at Burunga for some months until it was handed to the diocesan clergy.He moved to Rushere where he has been serving as the parish priest.
Since January 2020, Fr. Christopher has been battling with cancer.
He lost the battle to cancer at Nsambya Hospital on Saturday 12th September 2020 at midday.
