Soroti diocese was blessed with four deacons and three priests on 2nd July, 2022. These were ordained by His Lordship, the Rt. Rev. Bishop Joseph Eciru Oliach, Bishop of Soroti diocese at a solemn Mass at Holy Family Catholic Parish Gweri. Among the newly ordained trio is, Rev. Fr Augustine Epieru, a Comboni missionary who has been working in Kangole parish in Moroto diocese.
In his homily, the Bishop emphasized the need for priests to always dress in a clerical way in order to be distinguished as servants of the Church. He also challenged the congregation that whenever they felt the need to gift the priests with presents, it must be something meant for the clergy but not some kind of attire, which exhibits them like a popular Congolese musician!
The Bishop likened the role played by the priests and the Christians to a football game where he, the Bishop, assumes the role of the referee, the Christians are the assistants and the priests are the players. The Bishop insists that the priests are not the ones to evangelize but the Christians who must also play an active role by fully participating in the faith.
Soroti diocese is currently raising funds to construct a bigger and magnificent cathedral to be dedicated to our lady queen of heaven.
