Kankoole Hill is situated in the parish of Kikyuusa in Kasana-Luweero Diocese about 20 Kilometers from Luweero town. The area was initially under Kasaala Parish before Kyikyusa parish was erected. The hill of Kankoole was primarily a famous coven of with doctors and sorcerers. This did not impress the Comboni Fathers by then present in Kasaala. The presence of the sorcerers and witch doctors was an impediment to evangelization and thus Fr. Fulvio Cristoforetti who had a love for pilgrimage sites and particularly on hilly or mountainous areas thought of setting up a Marian shrine there as a way of eliminating the witch doctors.
