Mr Banio Luiji Nobert is a consultant, coach, mentor and trainer. He is the director of Capacity Beyond Limited Company. He shared with our reporter, Irene Lamunu about his company.
What kind of business do you do?
I am in the coaching, training and speaking business. As the CEO and co-founder of Capacity Beyond Ltd, my team and I are dedicated to unlocking human potential, through specialized Team Building, Mindset Change, Entrepreneurship and Personal Development (MEP) training programs. We equip individuals and teams with the skills they need to thrive in a world that sets limits on human potential. Our other initiatives include: BOYS to MEN Mentorship Camps for young men, baseline assessments and evaluations.
How did you get involved in this business?
My journey into this field began as a passion for helping others overcome challenges. I was inspired by people who were making a difference through coaching and I saw the struggles many faced with mindset, business, financial literacy and trauma. Seeing a real need, I initially began coaching as a side hustle, encouraged by friends, mentors and feedback from those I helped. Gradually, demand grew and people who benefited from my training urged me to do more. In late 2022, I took a leap from my role as Program Coordinator for the ERI East Africa program at HORIZONT3000 to focus full-time on Capacity Beyond Ltd.
This transition was made possible through the unwavering support of my business partners, friends and family who believed in this vision as much as I did.
What is the significance of this kind of business to society?
Capacity Beyond Ltd aims to make a positive sustainable impact on society. Our MEP programs empower people to start and expand businesses, even alongside their jobs. For organizations, our team-building events foster essential qualities like teamwork, leadership, excellence and communication, leading to better workplace dynamics and productivity gains. The BOYS to MEN Mentorship Camp is particularly impactful, preparing young men to grow into disciplined, ambitious gentlemen who become responsible family and community members. Through teachings on self-awareness, discipline, manhood, public speaking, business and financial literacy, we’re setting a foundation for a more resilient and capable generation.
What was the driving force behind starting this business?
I believe that every person carries a unique potential, much like a seed that holds an entire forest within. To unlock this, we need environments that nurture growth. My purpose has always been rooted in helping others tap into their hidden strengths. I have witnessed the struggles people go through due to gaps in essential life skills, mindset and self-awareness; and I felt called to bridge those gaps. I also believe that we each have a responsibility to impact those around us—our success is connected to theirs. My desire to support the next generation is another motivator, leading to initiatives like the BOYS to MEN Mentorship Camp. In this way, I can help young people avoid some of the challenges I faced, such as periods of unemployment and empower them with skills for a stable, fulfilling future.
How have you achieved from this business as a person and what have your clients achieved from it?
This journey has allowed me to live within my purpose, impact lives meaningfully and witness individuals and organizations reach new heights. Personally, it’s been a rewarding journey of growth, connecting with amazing people and working with clients from diverse sectors. I have had the privilege of working with organizations like Centenary Bank, MasterCard Foundation and Uganda Catholic Medical Bureau, along with completing over 90 engagements in less than three years. This business has also provided a livelihood for me, allowing me to travel, learn and expand my network. For my clients, the impact is profound.
Organizations that have participated in our training report improved teamwork, productivity and leadership. Individuals who attended our MEP Masterclasses or BOYS to MEN camps share stories of enhanced self-esteem, purpose and resilience. Many go on to start businesses, build stronger families and serve their communities. The progress they make reflects the heart of our mission: to empower people to fulfill their potential.
What does one need to start up this business?
Starting a coaching and training business requires three things: personal mastery, practical mastery and people mastery. First, you need to understand your skills, talents, purpose and weaknesses. Second, perfect your public speaking and coaching skills to effectively inspire and guide your clients. Finally, learn to tell your story. This means understanding marketing, sales, branding, networking, customer service, and storytelling so that your message reaches those who need it. As I always say, “Learning precedes earning.” Seek mentors, read widely and continue developing your craft.
What are the shortcomings of this business, and how can they be overcome?
One of the main challenges in coaching is that paid opportunities can take time to materialize. In the beginning, you may need to volunteer. Demand for coaching services, particularly in Africa, is still emerging. Many people aren’t fully aware of the need for personal and professional development. To overcome this, I focus on storytelling, sharing success stories and creating awareness about the benefits of our work. Be intentional, exceptional and consistent to attract and keep clients.
